Latin locution that literally means "the god (who comes down) from the machine". 1 . Used in the theatre that is applied to any unexpected element that is introduced into the action and that suddenly causes the denouement. 2 . A person or thing that, with its intervention, resolves, in an implausible way, a difficult situation within a literary work. 3 .
